The certification is awarded by the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP) founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes (author of Out of The Shadows). IITAP is one of the leading organizations dedicated to providing sex addiction training & sex addiction therapist certification. In working with addicts, Terry recognizes the dramatic affect unresolved trauma can have on the lives of individuals and their loved ones. This realization, along with his own personal work, prompted him to seek certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. He is completing his second of three years of training this November in this remarkable trauma healing modality developed by Dr. Peter Levine (author of Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma). SE is a body-awareness approach to trauma that among many things helps clients regain the ability to self-regulate their affect and emotions. This lack of affect regulation is often at the root of addictions.
